More Info about Beth: Beth Kander is a novelist and playwright whose roots are in the small-town Midwest and Deep South. Playwriting honors include the Henry Award for Best New Play or Musical, Headwaters New Play Award, Equity Library Theatre Showcase, Ashland New Plays Festival, Eudora Welty New Play Awards, and the Charles M. Getchell New Play Award. Her dystopian trilogy Original Syn was acquired by Owl House Books in 2017 and quickly became the imprint’s bestseller, also winning a 2019 Foreword INDIES Award. Her ghost story 13 Jericho Lane was a 2019 Pitch Wars selection, now pending publication; she’s excited to continue exploring “newish Jewish folklore” in her current work-in-progress, a Southern Gothic golem story tentatively titled Clay Heart. She has served as the resident Host Playwright for the Ashland New Plays Festival in Oregon since 2017. She has an MSW from the University of Michigan and an MFA from Mississippi University for Women. Beth is represented by Allison Hellegers at Stimola Literary Studio, and several of her plays are available through Stage Rights. On March 10, 2020, we hosted a free community event for ages 14+ on making Shakespeare relevant today. The agenda included Shakespeare techniques and tips from Tipsy Bard director Brittany Butler & the Uproar board and fun facts from Shakespeare scholar and professor, Dr. Heather Bailey. There was a great turnout for the event, which took place at the Cedars in Jackson. Check out photos from the event below.
